In light of turning Africa’s abundant resources into wealth and in building economic sustainability for the state of Bayelsa, the Sugarbayelsa project director Mr. Bamidele Adedayo and other delegates of AFREEI took the sugarcane for wealth campaign to the grassroots as they met with the traditional ruler of seven communities Ogbia LGA of Bayelsa State featuring in the pilot phase of the Sugarbayelsa.

The meeting was engaging as the Chiefs saw the need to revive the old glory days where the State was known as one of the largest producers of agricultural produce in the South-South region of the country before the oil boom, in relation to other countries such as Brazil, Ethiopia and more that has built their economy strength from been sugarcane industry, being the most employing agriculture after cotton, so, why then can’t Bayelsa State of Nigeria make wealth from her sugarcane abundance.

AFREEI is therefore in the front of this campaign as it takes the call to all categories of the state sensitizing all on the need to activate the sugarcane economic capacity to diversify the economy of the state from fossil, spur the growth of the rural communities, create mass employment of the teeming young population of the state to curb crime and accelerate the quantity of industrial activities in the State to position it as one of the states to reckon with as regards commerce in Nigeria.
